Sean Burnard

Director

Sean is a qualified actuary with extensive experience in investments, commercial management and pensions. He has been working as a professional trustee with Law Debenture since 2017.

Sean’s commercial, operational and trading investment experience gives him the breadth required to add value to all aspects of a pension scheme. His hands-on approach means he is well positioned to challenge service providers and to work collaboratively with executive teams.

Sean chairs five appointments, acting as Sole Corporate Trustee to a further two and acts as trustee director for a number of other schemes. These include DB and Hybrid (DB and DC) schemes for household names including Hays plc and the British Bankers’ Association (“BBA”). They range in size from £95m to over £11bn.

Sean acts as Sole Corporate Trustee on the BBA Pension Scheme and was responsible for improving the security of the scheme members by overseeing the landmark purchase of an insurance policy with Aviva at the height of lockdown in May 2020. He comments,

“Even through these volatile conditions, the price lock that we had in place with Aviva did what it was intended to do. Our ability to transact successfully also speaks to the robustness of the LawDeb Sole Corporate Trustee model, supported as it is by the breadth of experience and expertise of our leading Pensions Executive business, Pegasus.”

Sean believes in fair treatment for all and doing what is right for both members and the sponsor; ultimately delivering better outcomes for both parties.

In his spare time Sean enjoys cycling and going for long country walks in Hertfordshire with his family.
