Pension Trusteeship

David represents Law Debenture on nine schemes whose size of assets ranges from £25 million to £10 billion. His sub-committee memberships include administration, governance, investment and valuation.

Particular Expertise

  • Investment Strategy – inflation and interest rate hedging; the setting of de-risking trigger mechanisms; increasing asset diversification within the return seeking pool
  • Funding Negotiations – David frequently leads the triennial negotiations with the employer on behalf of the trustees
  • Defined Contribution – revamp of DC fund range and lifecycle models, partly on the basis of behavioural economics

Background

David has 25 years’ experience in investment management, mainly in the role of chief investment officer. Additionally, he held main board responsibility for HR for ten years.

He has a first class honours degree in Economics from the University of St Andrews and the degree of Master of Philosophy in Economics from the University of Oxford.

In addition to his duties with Law Debenture, David is a director of The Golden Charter Trust Limited and a non-executive director of The Baillie Gifford Japan Trust PLC, Martin Currie Global Portfolio Trust plc and Mid Wynd International Investment Trust plc.

He was a non-executive director of Shires Income PLC from 2004 to 2015 and of The Salvation Army International Trustee Company from 2007 to 2015.
