Sue Timbrell MBE

Pension Trusteeship

Sue represents Law Debenture on nine schemes whose assets range from £75 million to over £4 billion. She chairs six of these trustee boards and a number of board committees.

Particular expertise

  • Chairing – trustee boards and sub-committees
  • Investments – strategy reviews; de-risking strategies (including inflation and interest rate hedging); buy-in and buy-out projects; and changes to DC scheme investment strategies
  • Funding negotiations – leading triennial valuations and contingent funding negotiations (asset-backed solutions); sponsor covenant reviews (including parent company guarantees); and closure to future accruals
  • Trustee training and adviser selection – trustee training and adviser selection panels

Background


Sue is a chartered public finance accountant.

Before joining Law Debenture, Sue was Director of Pensions at Transport for London (TfL) and Company Secretary of the TfL trustee company where she provided strategic pensions advice to TfL, its £6 billion pension fund and its subsidiaries. She also managed the trustee board, its numerous committees and the 60-strong pensions department.

Sue has been an elected member of the PLSA investment council and chair of its property committee. She has also been chair of its shareholder affairs committee and a member of the performance monitoring group.

Sue is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.

Sue was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours of 2003.
