LawDeb at Global ABS 2018

LawDeb returned to the Global ABS conference in Barcelona once again this year. The Conference drew over 3,500 delegates over three days (and nights) who flocked to the International Convention Centre to meet with the great and the good of the asset backed securities industry.

The event saw keynote speakers including Sir Nick Clegg and Adam Farkas of the European Banking Authority take to the stage to discuss the outlook for the market and the wider economic implications of Brexit. *In relation to the outlook for ABS, most panels including those relating to CLOs, trade receivables, SME lending and emerging markets were almost all positive about near-term future.

LawDeb’s Head of Corporate Trust Eliot Solarz spoke on a panel entitled ‘Agents of Change? Trustee Perspectives on Hot Topics and Recent Issues.’ He was joined by speakers from Allen & Overy, Baker & McKenzie, HSBC and Deutsche Bank with Janet Oram of Blackrock chairing. 

During the event LawDeb polled the visitors to our exhibition stand with a different question posed each day. The first of these was ‘Is the CMBS making a comeback?’ We had a great response to this, with an overwhelming 91% of those asked saying yes it was.

This is welcome news following the CMBS decline since the 2008 global financial crisis, which saw this product fall out of favor and reflects more generally the positive outlook of many at the conference.
