LawDeb clients win at the Pensions Age Awards
26 February 2018
Last week the 5th Annual Pensions Age Awards took place in London. The Awards look to reward both the pension schemes and the pension providers that have proved themselves worthy of recognition over the past year.
There are various categories for the awards, from best administration through to best property manager, which highlights just how many stakeholders are involved in the effective running of a pension scheme. At LawDeb we act as independent professional trustees to 200 UK pension schemes and were pleased to see two of these recognised at the Awards.
The ICI Pension Fund was named DB Pension Scheme of the Year. This Scheme has been a LawDeb client since 1991 and Michael Chatterton, LawDeb Pension Trustees’ Managing Director is the LawDeb representative to the Scheme. Of the win Michael commented
“Through a disciplined and thoughtful approach over many years the ICI Pension Fund has got itself into a position that many would envy by developing and implementing de-risking programmes achieved through firstly interest rate and inflation hedging and latterly bulk annuity buy-ins.”
Smart Pension is a relatively new LawDeb client, who was awarded Pensions Technology Firm of the Year.
Smart Pension is an auto-enrolment provider to which LawDeb was appointed as an Independent Professional Trustee in January 2018 and is represented by Anna Eagles. Anna has explained her interest in the business saying, "Many firms talk about their technology, when in reality there is very little evidence that it is being used in any meaningful way. Smart Pension uses technology dynamically, as an implicit part of its business model. This is clearly the way forward, making pensions affordable and accessible to everyone." Clearly the judges agreed with Anna’s thoughts on Smart Pension’s outlook.
