James Rickards

James is a highly experienced pensions lawyer having been a leading practitioner at the pensions bar where he was recognised as being “fantastic to work with” and having “tremendous technical knowledge”.

James also spent time at Herbert Smith Freehills, where he gained valuable commercial experience, before working in the legal directorate of the Pensions Regulator.

James is therefore uniquely placed to bring a depth of legal and regulatory insight to his appointments along with complementary forensic and communication skills.

In addition to the above James acted as legal adviser to the Determinations Panel of the Pensions Regulator and has benefited from secondments to the Pensions Ombudsman and the Financial Conduct Authority. He also holds a LLM in Commercial Law, with distinction, from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Away from work James enjoys running around after his two children, wine, cooking, kitesurfing and motorbikes (although not always in that order).

What his colleagues say

“We are very pleased to welcome James to the LawDeb team. He brings a depth of pensions and regulatory knowledge that will bolster our expertise in this area at a time when the regulatory and technical challenges facing trustees has never been greater. Part of the strength of LawDeb is the way in which different Trustee Directors can share their knowledge and experience and we look forward to James’ contribution towards our team in this regard.”
