Peter brings a unique combination of skills and knowledge to Law Deb, due to his previous roles in the pensions industry over 30 years. The depth and breadth of his technical pensions knowledge combined with outstanding commercial and leadership experience means he is ideally suited to being a professional trustee and leader of our Manchester trustee business.
He spent the last 15 years of his professional career as a pensions lawyer with Pinsent Masons based in Manchester. He has advised trustees and employers at all stages of their pension scheme’s journey including scheme funding, mergers, corporate deals, litigation, moral hazard, buy-ins, wind ups and PPF entry. Chambers directory of UK Lawyers describes Peter as “a respected solicitor who is very client friendly, very good to deal with and very helpful”.
Before qualifying as a pensions lawyer, Peter was a senior manager with the Prudential where his roles included Regional Director and National Sales Manager. He was responsible for all aspects of managing and leading several teams, including budgetary control He reported to the MD of one of Prudential’s subsidiaries and led several successful high profile nationwide projects. He also opened the Liverpool office.
His roles at Prudential included responsibility for the distribution, marketing, technical, administration and regulatory aspects of Prudential’s pensions products in the teams which he led. This gives him experience of pensions from many different perspectives, including investment.
He has deep experience chairing meetings, leading teams, building consensus, dealing with conflict and ensuring meetings achieve their objective.
He is former chair of the NAPF/PLSA North West.
He has significant experience of being a trustee outside of work with two organisations - one is a multi academy trust based in Bolton and the other is an organisation in the Church of England dedicated to areas where the church finds it hard to connect – typically in some of the north west’s most deprived areas. He was also chair and non-executive director of an organisation funded by the UK Film Council which sought to attract people to the film industry.
He has an MBA with distinction from Manchester Business School and is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music on the guitar.
He is passionate about his Brompton folding bike which follows him (nearly) wherever he goes. He is also a keen mountain biker and cook, and still loves playing the guitar. He lives with his family in Bolton.
